We’re coming to the end of September. Three quarters of the year already gone faster than we ever expect it will go. Every year we’re all surprised by the realization, “Wow. It’s already fall.” So, this begs the question:

Where are you with your 2019 goals?

If you aren’t on track, that’s okay. There are some of my goals that I’m not on track with either. Maybe they were stretch goals that you weren’t sure you’d be able to meet anyway. Or maybe life just got in the way. If so, that’s okay. Shit happens.

The Game’s Not Over Yet

It might be the end of the third quarter, but it’s not the end of the year yet. We’ve all still got three months to get it all done. A lot can happen in three months. It could be enough time to change careers, start a business, meet your savings goal or finish that project around the house that just stares at you when you come home from work every night. No? That’s just me? Okay then.

Think of it as your team is down entering the last quarter. Do you push for the big win or do you give up?

Where Am I with My Goals?

In general, I feel pretty good about where I am with my personal and our mutual goals.

All of our finance related goals are on track to be completed by the end of this year so, I’m really excited about that. Part of the reason that it’s easier to meet goals you share with someone is that you rely on each other. Not to mention that meeting these financial goals year over year will help us to reach our life goal of financial independence, giving us more options to live our lives the way we want without being beholden to a paycheck.

Some of my personal goals are going well. For example, I’m ahead on my reading goal of 26 books this year for the first time ever. I also have been keeping up with the daily meditation/yoga fairly well. I could be doing better, but life isn’t perfect and I’m happy where I am.

Now, to those side hustle goals: I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that I’m failing on my ‘no TV 3 days/week’ goal AND falling behind on some of my side hustle goals. So, these next three months, I’m going to really work on cutting TV out and doubling down on my side hustles.

Not to discount the fact that I’m behind on some of my goals, but I also started a business (financial coaching) that wasn’t on my goals list at the beginning of this year. So, that was a big responsibility that has taken a lot of my time as well. It’s not an excuse, but it is also good to recognize that sometimes our priorities and goals change over the course of the year.

What About You?

Where are you with YOUR goals? What can you do to meet them? Be honest with yourself and acknowledge where you might have dropped the ball. It’s the best way to improve.

On the other hand, if you’ve completed all of your goals already and still have another 3 months left in the year, maybe you weren’t challenging yourself enough? Take the opportunity to reevaluate and move the goal line back a bit to challenge yourself.

So, where are you with your goals? Will you have to change your current daily habits in order to meet them? Let me know in the comments below!
